Strengthening the Talent Pipeline: Events Apprenticeships moves to The Power of Events with Newly Approved Industry-Ready Standards

The events industry is marking two significant developments this week. The revised Level 3 Event Co-ordinator Apprenticeship Standard has now been formally approved by the Government, and the Events Apprenticeships programme will move into the wider remit of The Power of Events. Together, these steps support long-term talent development and help provide clearer pathways into the industry.

Following discussions with The Power of Events, the decision was made to bring the programme into their broader remit. This approach builds on the work already achieved and positions apprenticeships within a platform that has far wider reach and stronger visibility across the sector. It creates a clearer opportunity for organisations to understand the role apprenticeships can play in workforce planning, while ensuring the programme continues to fit within the wider industry landscape.

This move also connects the programme with The Power of Events’ growing schools engagement work, helping create a more joined-up route from early awareness to professional entry. Candice Kass will continue to support this work, helping maintain consistency and momentum as apprenticeships sit alongside other priorities within The Power of Events.

Simon Hughes, Director, The Power of Events said, "As one of the routes into a career in events, apprenticeships are featuring much more in career planning. Sustaining the great work done to date and showcasing the opportunities that apprenticeships bring for employers fits the broader remit of The Power of Events perfectly."

Richard Waddington, Chair, Events Apprenticeships said, “I’d like to thank everyone across the industry who has supported and engaged with Events Apprenticeships. Apprenticeships offer government-funded training across a wide range of skills, and it’s been encouraging to see so many organisations start to embrace them. Joining The Power of Events gives us the chance to reach a wider audience and open up opportunities for an even broader and more diverse pool of future talent.”

A refreshed standard shaped by industry

The newly approved Event Co-ordinator Standard reflects two years of collaboration across the industry. It includes a change in title from Event Assistant to Event Co-ordinator, recognising the scope and responsibility of the role in today’s market. The updated standard offers employers a clear, structured pathway for early career development, helping teams plan future workforce needs and build capability in a sustainable, practical way.

With the standard now approved, employers can begin planning how it could support their recruitment and development strategies. We encourage organisations to speak with their training providers, review the duties and KSBs, and consider how an apprentice might help build capacity for 2026 and beyond.

Laura Capell-Abra, Stress Matters, said: “I am delighted that our industry can now move forward with this standard. It represents a crucial step in cultivating and supporting future talent. Apprenticeships offer an excellent pathway into and through the events industry, and I eagerly await to hear the success stories that I know will come. For now, I thank all the employers that took part in this process and am proud of what we have created.”

Anna Green, Broadsword, said: “‘I’m genuinely thrilled to announce that the revised Event Co-ordinator Standard has now been officially published. This marks the culmination of a huge amount of collaborative work, feedback and refinement from many dedicated individuals and organisations. The result is a refreshed, comprehensive standard that better represents the evolving needs of the events expertise to shape this standard. Your collective expertise has been invaluable in reaching this important outcome.”

A big thank you to everyone who has played a part in reaching this point. The standard has been through several rounds of development, and we’re pleased to confirm it now has full government approval.

A particular thank you goes to Laura Capell-Aba (Stress Matters), Lou Kiwanuka (Ops Nest) and Anna Green (Broadsword) for leading so much of the work before the final push. Their energy and commitment have been central to getting us here.

As Events Apprenticeships move into the wider remit of The Power of Events, we invite employers, training providers and partners to stay engaged. This next phase offers a chance to keep raising awareness of apprenticeships, strengthen pathways into the industry through the Schools Engagement Programme and build on the positive progress already made.
